Black silicon carbide(C) is produced at high temperature in an electric resistance type furnace with quartz sand and petroleum coke as its main raw materials. Its hardness is between fused alumina and synthetic diamond. Mechanical intensity of it is higher than fused alumina. Its basic mineral is Alpha-SiC Hexagonal system The Knoop Hardness scale is 3100-3280kg/mm2.It is brittle and sharp, and has a good electrical and heat conductivity. As an abrasive material,it can be used in grinding Non-metal and high-tensile strength metals such as cast iron,non-ferrous,rock,leather,rubber,etc.Moreover,it is also widely used in the metallurgical materials and high-class refractory, etc.
